Harold H. Cameron

12/05/27 - 10/22/03

It is with great sadness that we must report the passing of our friend and long term Mohawk Hudson Region member Harold Cameron.

The board of directors and membership extends condolences to his wife Mary and to his family and many friends.

Harold has been a member of the region since nineteen sixty four ranking him fourth in tenure at nearly forty years. Well know throughout the Northeast Division, he held a National Chief Steward license, officiating at events throughout the division.

He was also one of the quickest small bore production car drivers in the northeast. His driving career was cut short by a heart attack which he suffered while racing at the old Bryar Motorsports park in the mid seventies. He always credited the prompt and excellent medical attention afforded to him by the SCCA mandated physician and medical personal for saving his life.

Hardly slowed by a heart condition, he took up the challenge of race administration and performed his duties with the same intensity and competence he exhibited as a driver. He also served as president of the New York State Ice Racing Association for many years, insuring that racing did not stop when the coming of snow and ice to the great white north.

Although in ill health recently, Harold still attended many races both as an official and as an honored guest. Unless incapacitated, Harold never missed a meeting sharing his years of experience with fellow members to the benefit of all.

Up until this year, he attended our yearly go-kart evenings, running every session and giving a driving lesson to folks less than a quarter of his age. A high point of these events was watching Harold and regional FV ace Dick Stewart buzz around the track neck and neck with Harold more often than not getting the best of Dick.

Harold was retired from New Salem SAAB where he made many friends while selling his favorite marque.

Harold will be missed.
