Race Official Licensing - Tips for 2004
Clark W. Nicholls - MoHud Race Official Licensing Chairman

This year there will be increased requirements for MoHud race officials at Lime Rock. More people make the workload easier! If you're new to this, come on out to these events and you'll see many familiar MoHudian faces!

Here are the dates:

We have the MoHud SCCA Race Driver's School on Friday June 18th and the traditional Regional Race on Saturday June 19th .

As an added bonus, MoHud is the organizing Region for a Pro event, the Ferrari Challenge. The dates here are Friday July 9th and Saturday July 10th. Be aware, however, that last year the Ferrari event required workers on Thursday also, so that may add July 8th to the mix. It is an interesting event with "showroom stock" Ferrari's and hopefully a lot of vintage cars to play with!

So, getting to the point, it's time to get your license renewed or issued!

I'm taking for granted your SCCA membership is current!

There are many specialties to choose from, if you've never worked a race before.
If you want to help the Region and work our Lime Rock events, having a license is a prerequisite. In addition to getting you in as a Race Official to the event free, it's needed for you to participate in the SCCA insurance coverage (why not, it's free).

It is best to get your new Regional license (it's free!) from SCCA in advance, but the paperwork can also be done at the track (slowing up the registration process, grrr).

The specialties (choose one or more, you can have several different specialty licenses) are:

Emergency Services
Flagging and Communications
Pit and Paddock
Race Control (Grid)
Registrar
Scrutineer (Technical Inspector)
Sound Control (sound level measurements)
Timing and Scoring

Go here to the following website for a description of the specialties:

Call/mail in your license request to:
SCCA, P. O. Box 19400, Topeka, KS 66619-0400
Phone: 785-357-7222
Fax: 785-232-7228
Toll-free: 1-800-770-2055

Additional information/tip:

Already have your membership and license?
Want another copy?
By adding another specialty or Crew license to your membership, SCCA will issue a new membership card and license. That way you can laminate one copy and carry the other in your wallet. This is handy when you forget to bring your laminated one to the track (I'm sure you have done this), you can use the one in your wallet and sign in!

See you at Lime Rock!

Be prepared for the weather, but remember that for track-side specialties your clothes can't be Red or Yellow! The preferred color for F+C is White.
