FLOCON DE NEIGE 2009 |
|
'Twas indeed a dark and cold night [but not stormy] - that's my story, and I'm sticking with it - when 16 cars entered the 2009 version of the Mohawk Hudson Region / SCCA Snowflake rally. The roads through the hill towns were passable, with minor drifting snow. As it turns out, we could have kept the section through Partridge Run - oh well. For 2009, a particular emphasis was placed on straightforward TSD route instructions, focussing on a goal of having everyone finish and possibly generate some enthusiasm for additional rallies in the future. Everyone did come to the finish, except for one car that was thoughtful enough to phone in that they were ok, but heading home. Even those who found following the route difficult seemed to be interested in trying again. We suspect that a large part of the difficulties encountered were seeing signs when it was really, really dark. The rallymaster encourages all to go out and try it again in the daylight when time is not a factor. The route is scenic, day or night.
We succeeded in attracting 23 non-members, although some of those have participated in previous MHR or SCCA events.
With a little more promotion, we could probably do even better.
Class A was equipped and experienced; Class B was unequipped and novices. Based on the results, I'd say that some
of our "novice" entrants are ready to move up. The results below are somewhat adjusted from what was
announced at the finish, based on a review, additional deciphering and arithmetic checking of scorecards in a warm,
bright room, without concurrent discussions about the instructions, route, checkpoint trucks and their adventures,
etc. Sorry about that - my apologies to all affected. For the future, we will need to plan on leaving sufficient
time to have classes on filling out scorecards and penmanship, and a more lucid results team.
Thanks to Peter, Jack, Roly, Joan, DJ and Russ for all of their help in making this event happen. Thanks also go
to our friends at Malt River for being such gracious hosts - please support them with your business when you have
a chance.
