Well the Solo2 season has started. The kick-off of the season was the Solo2 Car Control Clinic on Saturday, April 30. Despite the weather we had 17 students sign up for the school and participate. The rains would not let up, yet the students and instructor's kept upbeat throughout the day. The most rewarding part of the day is when you see the students actually getting the idea of each exercise that is taught. You can see the light bulbs pop on. I believe that the rain actually help the program in getting the cars to break loose at a lower speed. We got more response to the clinic after the event than during and before. With enough interest and support we may be able to put on another Clinic later in the year. I want to personally thank everyone involved in the event was a success.
The May 1, first points event turned out to be a lot dryer. The afternoon was comfortable and 54 had entrants. With the clinic the day before the students got an immediate introduction to Solo2 the next day. Novice entrants were excited and eager to help out with a lot of the duties that need to be done at an event. This is a good sign, and promises to be a good start for the season. We still have our issues with a site in the Albany area. Do to some circumstances we will not be able to hold a May 22 or a June 5 event. Gore MT. never got back to us and time restraints and scheduling conflicts did not allow another site did not come on board fast enough.
With the assistance of some of the Regions Solo personnel and equipment, we were able to assist the Northeast Sustainable Energy Association in putting on an autocross event at the Saratoga Spring Auto Show, for their alternate energy automobiles on May 14. Thanks, Russ, Bill, Paul, Ed, Tom, and DJ, once again we got great kudos for assisting in their NESEA event that was well run. Some of the vehicles were quite unique that entered the event. A combination FWD electric/ RWD bio-diesel, all wheel drive car to me was the most impressive, although the electric part had some problems.
Tom Campbell got about 10 of our Mo-Hud club members to enter the Auto Show. We were placed right outside of the front of the Museum. We had a good showing. A whole group us Mo-Hudders spent the entire around the Saratoga Museum area.
We did see are Re, Gene Triccozzi, wandering around the Auto Show. He showed up to represent us at a breakfast at the Museum. He can give you the details of what is happening at the tracks that are our concerns. Man, he event wore a suite...
As you can see by this newsletter, there is always good and bad news. Some thing fell away but there are new things that are unfolding.
That being said there is a lot of club activity to be had.
The next big activity is the Region's race in June on the 10th and 11th. Come on down to Lime Rock Park work a little and have a lot of fun.
Until the next time
