Mohawk Hudson Region SCCA invites you to attend an SCCA Time Trial on Whiskey Hill Raceway at Palmer Motorsports Park. We will be using the Counter Clockwise circuit.

The Time Trial will be held under SCCA Time Trial Rules and classing.  More infomation on SCCA Time Trials rules is available here

We anticipate 4 sessions on Track through the day: 1 practice session and 3 timed sessions.  Times from 2 of the timed sessions will count towards your finishing position. Participants will be broken up into run groups based on their history and experience levels.  Registration is now open

SCCA Track Night In America

SCCA’s “Track Night In America” is positioned as way for newcomers to the track to experience a track event at a low cost with minimal time commitment.  Events typically start in the late afternoon (4 PM) and are done by 8 PM.  Costs are usually in the $150 – $200 range and consist of some classroom presentation and then two 20 minute sessions on track.  Tracks near the MoHud region include Lime Rock Park, Palmer Motorsports Park, Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park, Pocono Raceway, and NJ Motorsports Park.

SCCA Time Trials National Tour

SCCA Time Trials began in 2018 with the goal of providing drivers from all backgrounds, the opportunity to compete against the clock and has been drawing track day enthusiasts, autocrossers as well as club racers to Time Trials events.

The SCCA National Office staff, conduct Time Trials National Tour events at race tracks all over the country. These events are two-day affairs. The Time Trials Nationals is a 3-4 day event and is held at NCM Motorsports Park in Bowling Green, KY. These events consist of Practice lapping sessions and Time Attack lapping sessions. Track Sprints, that feature a standing start and a flying finish similar to autocross or hillclimbs, are also part of the SCCA Time Trials format.

TimeTrials.scca.com contains information about events, as well as information about the classes and rules. MoHud members have been participating in SCCA Time Trials since 2018 and the MoHud team was also awarded the Spirit of Time Trials award at the 2020 SCCA Time Trials National Tour held at Thompson Speedway in July 2020. This event also commemorated the 75th anniversary of the first ever SCCA track event – a time trials event held at Thompson Speedway.

MoHud does not currently organize Time Trials events, but our members have actively worked at and participated in these events. If you have any interest in SCCA Time Trials or have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Aashish Vemulapalli or Adam Wright for more info.

Patroon Chapter of the BMW Car Club of America – High Performance Driving Experience

Many of MoHud’s track drivers are also members of the Patroon Chapter of the BMW Car Club of America (BMWCCA) – no BMW required!   BMWCCA’s High Performance Driving Experiences (aka HPDE) are track day events with a focus on safety and skill improvement through instruction.  HPDEs can be 1 – 2 – 3 day events, although the vast majority are either 1 or 2 days in length. Costs range from $355 and up, and consist of classroom instruction, instructor input and feedback, and typically four 20-30 minute sessions per day on track. Participants are organized by experience levels into run groups, and each participant is assigned an instructor who will ride with you and provide direction and input while on track.  Drivers in the upper run groups who are safe and proficient at driving can be signed off to go solo on the track. Patroon hosts events at tracks in the Northeast, including Lime Rock Park and Palmer Motorsports Park.  For a list of the latest events, please visit http://www.PatroonHPDE.com.

The 2012 PDX happened.

Hand signals play an important part of communication between drivers on track at a PDX. This student shows the “Pit In” signal (balled fist) as he enters the pits at Calabogie Motorsports Park.

And the 2011 event.

MoHud PDX events are open to any SCCA member with a valid driver’s license and a car that meets safety requirements. A $15 temporary membership is available for the weekend for those who are not yet club members.

This is not a racing school but rather a high performance car control clinic on a race circuit under close supervision by instructors. You will be taught the fine art of car control and fundamentals of vehicle dynamics. You will be able to learn the capabilities of your car and improve your driving skills at speeds that are not permitted on public roads. All drivers will be instructed on safety regulations and general track etiquette.

Instruction is provided in-car and in classroom by our experienced cadre of performance drivers, many of whom you might be familiar with from Patroon BMWCCA.

In addition to the “Pre-Event Safety Inspection,” which the driver is required to have performed, an “On-Site Safety Inspection” will be performed at the site in the morning, prior to you getting out on track. Cars failing the on-site inspection will not be permitted on the track. No refunds will be given for cars failing the on-site inspection.

The front straight at the track may be the highest speed portion of the track, but often it gives you a chance to catch your breath before concentrating on the difficult parts: the curves and turns.

PDX Event Forms

  • Tech forms — pre-event and on-site safety inspection forms you will need filled out to participate
  • 2013 application form — the official form
  • 2013 event schedule
  • Supplemental rules and regulations — you will need to read and understand these before arriving at the track
  • Supplemental regulations in .doc form (also contains event chiefs, contact and timeline information)
  • PDX time trial rules — SCCA’s PDX rule book

So You Think You Want To Be A Racer

Run at different track locations throughout the country, the PDX provides an instructional environment for drivers who simply want to improve their driving skills and increase their enjoyment of driving their street vehicle. True to the “run what ya brung” adage, all it takes to be a part is your street car, a valid license and a helmet.

If you’re interested in more information of how to get from the sidelines to the racetrack, you might also want to check out the book Go Ahead – Take the Wheel.

Scenes from MoHud’s 2010 PDX at Monticello Motor Club

MoHud’s track day at Monticello earned the club recognition at the 2010 National Convention, held in Las Vegas, for “Best PDX in the Northeast Region in 2010.”
